Senior Product Designer
Sydney (Surry Hills) · Hybrid · Full-time
Our first dedicated design hire. Shape workflows, information architecture and AI-native experiences for a political intelligence platform, with broad ownership and direct influence in a small product team.
Advoc8 is a political monitoring and intelligence platform for government relations and policy professionals.
Our customers use Advoc8 to understand what is happening across government, follow political and policy developments, manage stakeholder relationships, prepare briefings and decide where to focus their attention.
For instance, a disability advocacy charity might use Advoc8 to follow proposed changes to the NDIS, track what ministers and MPs are saying about the reforms, and identify opportunities to contribute to an inquiry or consultation. A peak body representing renewable energy companies might use it to monitor proposed energy-market reforms, understand where key politicians stand, and coordinate engagement with government as the policy develops.
The product brings together large volumes of current information from parliaments, government departments and other policy stakeholders. It is a rich, interconnected domain with interesting design problems around workflows, information architecture and making complex information easy to understand.
It is also a product with significant potential for AI. We are already experimenting with new ways to build software and new experiences for customers, and we want to explore genuinely AI-native workflows rather than simply adding chat or copilots to existing screens.
We are hiring a Senior Product Designer to help shape what Advoc8 becomes next.
The role
This is our first dedicated design hire.
You will work closely with our product manager and developers, with broad ownership over how design contributes to the product. You will be involved early: understanding customer problems, exploring concepts and helping shape features before they are built.
You will:
- Understand and map complex customer workflows
- Turn early or ambiguous ideas into clear product directions
- Design information architectures for dense, interconnected data
- Create flows, wireframes and prototypes at the right level of fidelity
- Shape interaction patterns and improve consistency and polish across the product
- Explore new workflows and interaction models made possible by AI
- Work closely with developers through implementation
- Participate in customer research and help strengthen that practice
- Establish useful design tools, patterns and practices as the team grows
There is plenty already here to build on, but also genuine freedom to influence how we approach design and how the product evolves.
What we are looking for
You will likely have experience designing B2B SaaS, workflow products or other complex software, and be comfortable taking a problem from an uncertain starting point through to a clear, testable and buildable direction.
You might already have worked as a sole designer, or you might be coming from a larger design team and looking for broader ownership and more direct influence.
We think you will enjoy the role if you:
- Are strong in product and interaction design, information architecture, wireframing and prototyping
- Enjoy making complicated systems easier to understand and use
- Care about both usefulness and craft
- Are comfortable working with dense information without simplifying away important detail
- Like working closely with product and engineering and seeing ideas through to production
- Can explain your decisions, navigate trade-offs and challenge assumptions
- Are pragmatic, collaborative and comfortable with ambiguity
- Have a point of view about how AI can change products and workflows
- Are interested in politics, government and how policy is made
- Want meaningful ownership and the opportunity to shape design within a small product team
Experience in government, politics, public affairs or policy is useful, but not essential. A genuine interest in and curiosity about the space, however, is.
We currently use Figma alongside lower-fidelity wireframing and flow-mapping tools, and we are open to you improving the toolkit.
